Reading has been a part of our daily routine since The Nut was in utero. Some days we read one book and some days we read ten. She is a very fortunate little girl with a vast library of books to choose from that continues to grow on a regular basis. Not all kids are so lucky. 2/3′s of America’s children who live in poverty have NO books at home and less than half of US children are read to on a daily basis*.
Jet Blue and PBS Kids have joined forces this summer to help inspire reading and to provide books to the kids who don’t have access. You can visit SoarwithReading.com to find free summer reading materials. While you’re there, adults can share the name of their favorite children’s book. For each submission, an age-appropriate book will be donated to a child in need by JetBlue and their partner, BArefoot Books. Up to $200,000 worth of books will be donated through this program.
For those of you in the NYC area, Soar with Reading is hosting a local event on Friday, August 10th at 10:30am at the Riverbank State Park, where kids will enjoy a reading by Barefoot Books author Susan Reed, a musical performance from PBS KIDS’ Mr. Steve and more.
